You've decided to explore the wonderful world of laser hair removal. . .you’ve done some research, but you wonder just what to expect when you come in for your consultation and treatment here at Renu Laser and Skin Care.
We begin by discussing your current hair removal goals and current hair growth situation:
- What area would you like to treat?
- What is your current hair growth like?
- What are the problems you are experiencing?
- What are your current methods of hair removal?
- Have you had any previous laser hair removal treatments?
- What is your nationality/background?
Once we have established your goals, we will then go over some important pre-treatment information that each client must know:
It will take more than one treatment to remove hair. In a given area, only 10% - 15% of your follicles are “active”. Meaning they currently have hair, or are in the growing phase. The active follicles are the only follicles we are able to treat while in a laser hair removal session. Because we can only target 10% - 15% of the hairs in a given area, in one session, you will need to continue coming when the other phases of hair begin growing in. Yes, you can purchase a single session here, but that will not produce long-term results. Furthermore, we recommend a package of 6, which we offer at a reduced rate, to begin. If you need more than 6 treatments, we will then discuss a follow-up rate which is significantly reduced.
It takes about 4-8 weeks for a new phase of hair to begin growing. Each person is different. If you come in too early, not enough hair will be ready and in active phase to laser. If you come too late/miss appointments, you may have begun to shed that phase of hair, which means we have missed the opportunity to catch some of the hairs in their active phase. Your laser technician will discuss with you, after looking at your hair, approximately how frequently they would like to treat you. If you happen to miss your appointments, all is not lost, but it will prolong the amount of time you have to get laser hair removal, as we are aiming to target all phases of hair in active stages.
It is permanent laser hair reduction. Anyone who tell you different is lying. We will do our best to remove all of your hair according to your goals. BUT, please remember, that we are humans and your bodies are all different. Hormones will play a part in hair production. Pregnancy, hormone imbalances, hormone pills, etc. can all play a part making it more difficult to permanently remove hair. We will be able to get most of your hair, but you may need a few follow-up appointments to keep your results where you want them to be.
The laser targets melanin in your hair (color). Furthermore, if you have grey or very blonde hair, the laser will not see it in order to treat. We do have alternative options for people with blonde or grey hair (electrolysis). Please inquire at your appointment if you require electrolysis.
Because the laser targets melanin (color), sun exposure is a BIG NO-NO, even sunless tanner is a BIG NO-NO! The laser will see the color in your skin and will target your skin rather than your hair, which could lead to some serious burns. Even if you did not get a tan while in the sun, your melanocytes (skin color cells) are still active from the sun exposure and can lead to burn. For this reason, we require 14 days prior to your appointment, no sun. REMEMBER, NO SUN AND NO SUNLESS TANNERS or your skin could burn, and hair will not be targeted.
I have dark skin; can I be treated? YES!!! With our new and innovative technology, we now have lasers here at Renu Laser and Skin Care that can target ALL skin types.
We also like to remind you not to wax or tweeze before your appointment. If the hair is not there, it cannot be targeted, and therefore cannot be removed by laser. Please keep all hair in its place, below the surface. We do ask you to come with a close shave as we want to target the hair BELOW the skin (& follicle), not above. It is a must that you shave recently prior to your appointment.
