Pregnancy Guidelines for Skin Care

September 26, 2016

You've just received the most glorious news…you're pregnant! It is such a joyous occasion, and you're absolutely thrilled! Make sure you have a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby by knowing what is okay and what is not okay to do during pregnancy when it comes to your beauty routine.

Although you're a devoted Botox patient, and you make sure to make an appointment every three months, you're going to have to take a break during pregnancy. Your Botox regime must be paused for the pregnancy. New and early data is not clear on the effects, so we advise not to use them during pregnancy. The same goes for fillers. Let your pregnancy glow take over for these nine months!

We also recommend that you discontinue using Latisse during pregnancy. The Food and Drug Administration has assigned it a category C rating for use during pregnancy . That means that it's caused adverse effects in animal studies but hasn't been tested on humans. We think your lashes are lower-priority than your baby's health, so press pause on Latisse as well. Go get some super plumping mascara instead!

As your body is working hard to create that baby, stop and think about everything that you put ON your skin! Think about what might be passing the skin barrier and being absorbed into your body. Stay away from Retinoids and Salicylic Acids during pregnancy.

Don't despair with all of these no-no's! There's plenty you can safely do during pregnancy to keep nice, glowing skin! Exfoliate daily to keep dead skin sloughed off! Schedule a hydrafacial to plump and hydrate on a monthly basis. Above all, don't forget sunscreen. It can be your best friend during this time, especially if you develop hormone related melasma.
